Stress is not always an unhealthy experience and it is even seen as beneficial for some people. Dr. Kail explained that stress helps senior executives control anxiety. At moderate level, managers are much more susceptible to uncontrolled situations and are at higher risk of cancer. In a study of 7,373 men and women in 1997, Michael Marmot, Ph.D., showed that the level of influence and control over a work experience affects heart disease risk. More specifically, the less control over the workings of employees, the higher the rate of heart problems. This factor was even more significant than job volume or income level.

Everybody responds differently to the strase, and one's emotional stress rate depends on the individual's ability to function. The humor and learned experiences of a person are important psychological mediators of stress and anxiety. A lot of people have heard about people who show Type A or Type B behaviors. Unlike more comfortable, uncompetitive and philosophical Type B people, Type A's are often portrayed impatient - trying to do many things at the same time as they are trying to reach a precious goal. This goal-oriented behavior tends to be critical and self-indulgent, preventing the enjoyment of their own successes. At the beginning of the 1960's, studies began to show that personality is a major influence on health. In one study, 3,000 middle-aged men were followed for 8.5 years and Type A's were found to be twice as likely to have heart disease as Type B patients. In a recent study with air traffic controllers, it was found that Type A suffered 3.5 times more work-related injuries and 38% more diseases than Type B injuries.

Certain common symptoms of anxiety can be caused by excessive and uneasy anxiety, increased panic sensation, restlessness, insomnia, tremors, muscle tension, fatigue, infections, shortness of breath, heart attack, sweaty and damp hand, back pain, hot flashes or trembling, dizziness, memory loss and concentration difficulty.
