Manuel Brenes and his colleagues discovered that some of the natural fruits and vegetables, such as green tea and blackberry juice, that prevented the proliferation of H. pylori bacteria. Later, in a research they conducted in the laboratory environment, they investigated whether olive oil affected the bacteria.
Brenes and colleagues have observed that healthy phenolic components in olive oil can last for hours without deterioration in the stomach environment. These phenolic compounds found in olive oil have been found to be effective on many strains of H. pylori and stop the reproduction of this bacterin. They have even found that olive oil is effective even on several bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics.
It is thought that 100% pure and natural olive oil can protect against gastritis and peptic ulcer due to these studies made in laboratory environment. However, in order to be able to prove this thesis, studies done only in the laboratory environment are not enough, but studies on living things, ie mice and humans, are also needed.
