Paris Public Hospitals (APHP) has set its "winter epidemic" plan at level 2 to cope with the peak of influenza activity.
The New Year was not easy for the emergency services. Parisian hospitals are a good reflection of the peak of activity felt for this traditional holiday weekend. While the flu epidemic has spread throughout France and spares no region outside Corsica (in the pre-epidemic phase), Paris Public Hospital Assistance (APHP) has announced that it has become 2 of his plan "winter epidemics". The goal behind this strengthening of organizational measures? Maintain the maximum capacity of reception. The activation of level 2 of the plan allows "to continue to organize the reception of the patients after the long weekend of Christmas" but also to anticipate the peak of activity traditionally observed the weekend of the New year, explains the AP -HP in a statement.
"A VERY HIGH NUMBER OF EMERGENCY RECOURSE"
Each year, AP-HP's services, SAMU - centers 15, emergency services and downstream services, are in high demand with the increase in cases of influenza-like illness. This cyclical situation rhymes with record attendance in adult and pediatric emergency departments and in intensive care units. The move to 2018 should not have been an exception. AP-HP is already seeing a number of emergency calls for very high influenza-like illness, "higher than last year's peak of the epidemic for both adults and pediatrics," says AP -HP.
