What is Guatr? What are the symptoms?

Goiter is the growth of the thyroid gland. Thyroid hormone levels can be normal in a person with goitre, or thyroid hormone can be produced in the presence of high (hyperthyroidism) or low (hypothyroidism) need.

If the thyroid gland in the lower part of the glove (below the gland) is larger than normal, it means that the person has goitre disease.

While the goiter is usually not a painful health problem, the overgrown thyroid gland can make swallowing difficult and cause coughing. In some patients, the goiter is not affected by the daily life, and the thyroid swelling is not noticed from the outside.

Guatace Signs

If the thyroid gland is enlarged too much, the swelling from the neck to the neck obviously points to the goat. In some cases, however, the goiter may only be a headache or itching without reason. In fact, there are no symptoms in some goitre patients.
However, the most common sign of goiter is the swelling of the thyroid gland. Due to the growth of the bezel, swelling or swellings may occur suddenly in the neck region.

While these swellings are noticeable and shaving on the surface of the skin, you may notice when you are wearing makeup. The size of the swollen can vary from a small swollen to a full swollen lower back area.

In rare cases, the over-inflated thyroid gland may press on the breathing tube and make it difficult to breathe. The same print may result in coughing, wheezing and difficulty swallowing.

However, before these extreme situations, you need to go to a specialist by noticing the swelling, and your doctor will intervene to prevent the thyroid gland from causing these dangerous conditions.

Again, due to the goitre, the over-inflated thyroid gland can press the veins in the neck region and reduce blood flow. In this case, you may experience dizziness due to lack of oxygen.

Other Indications: Among other indications of goitre; heart swelling, swelling of the eyes, chills, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, sweating.

How is the Goitre Diagnosis Made?

During physical examination, the doctor checks the neck region with his fingertips. During this examination, a swollen thyroid gland can be detected.
A blood test is performed to determine the level of thyroid hormone production for the unmanageable goitre.

Thyroid scanning and ultrasound film of the thyroid are used to determine whether there is a cancerous tumor in and around the bulge in the thyroid gland.

If nodules are found in this film and scan, samples from these nodules (biopsy) are examined in the laboratory and thyroid cancer is searched.

Why Guatace Creates?
Different types of goitre can occur for different reasons.

Simple Goitre (Endemic): Simple goiter can be seen without any relief or because the thyroid gland can not produce enough thyroid hormone. The thyroid gland begins to grow to produce the hormone that the body needs.
Simple goitre, also called "endemic goitre", is the most common goitre type in women and men over 40 years of age with a family history of goitre problems.

The long-term use of certain medications (such as lithium or aminoglutethimide) is known to cause goitre.

Toxic Nodular Goiter: This goitre type shows round nodules on the growing thyroid gland. These nodules cause excess thyroid hormone production.

We can list the possible causes of goitre as follows;

Inadequate Nutrition for Iodine: Goitre is more common in geographies where there is not enough iodine. In some countries iodine deficiency is the main cause of goiter.

The hormone production of the thyroid gland is reduced when iodine taken from sea and soil and consumed seafood, vegetables and dairy products is lost.

To prevent iodine deficiency in the 1990's, iodine supplementation was started to table salt in USA and UK. However, it should not be forgotten that consuming too much iodine increases the risk of goitre.

Age: Over 40 years of age, the risk of goitre increases in adults.

Gender: Women are more prone to goiters than men.
Immune System: People with or experiencing immune system problems have a higher goitre.

Pregnancy and Menopause: Risk of goitre during pregnancy and menopause is rising.

Some medications: Lithium, antiretrovirals, immunosuppressants, amiodarone (heart medicine), such as drugs increase goitre riskin.

Radiation: Goiter is more common in people exposed to the neck and chest area radiation (eg due to radiotherapy).

Hyperthyroid: If the thyroid gland is overactive, the gland may enlarge.

Hypothyroid: If the thyroid hormone needed by the body can not be produced in sufficient quantities, the thyroid gland may grow to be able to respond to the student.

Cigarettes: Studies show that smokers and those with iodine deficiency have a significantly increased risk of goitre.

Some infections: Some parasites and bacteria increase the risk of goiter formation.

Some foods: Some foods such as peanuts, soy beans, tofu and spinach raise the risk of goitre.
