Can Fermented Milk Prevent Chronic Gastritis?

Gastritis, caused by the consumption of acetyl salicylic acid (ASA), is a common disease worldwide.

The effect of dietary probiotic foods on diarrheal system disorders ranging from diarrhea to irritable bowel syndrome has been investigated. However, no research has been conducted to investigate the effect of probiotics on gastric diseases.

The positive effects of probiotic foods on the digestive system are not solely due to the bacteria they contain. However, the intermediates that these bacteria produce when breaking down the existing foods can cause beneficial effects. For example, some bacterial strains found in probiotic media produce metabolites such as exopolysaccharides (EPS). These EPS polymers are known to have anti-ulcer effects by altering the response of the immune system.


As a result of a study published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology, the following data were obtained: Thermophilus CRL 1190 & quot ;, and that the EPS produced by this bacterium has been shown to increase the thickness of the mucus layer in the stomach by changing the response of the immune system in the mice and thus protect against many diseases such as chronic gastritis and ulcer. Given the mentioned fermentative herbicide effect, it appeared to be similar to omeprazole, a frequently prescribed proton pump.

As a result of this study, it was observed that fermented beverage may be a natural alternative to the treatment of ASA-related gastritis.
